The imagery of blossoming plum trees echoes the artwork’s focus on delicate beauty and transience — a core principle of Japanese visual culture.

The composition is built around gold and red tones enriched with subtle gold accents, creating a quiet dialogue between movement and stillness.

Inspired by traditional Japanese aesthetics and seasonal symbolism, the artwork reflects themes of connection, intimacy, and the fleeting nature of beauty. The layered surface and glossy finish allow the painting to change subtly with light, revealing new details from different angles.

Designed as a statement piece, this large gold painting becomes a focal point on large walls and contemporary interiors.

J464 — Yellow-billed Blue Magpie on a Plum Blossom Branch

This large horizontal painting presents a quiet moment suspended in gold.

An ancient branch of mei hua — the plum blossom that blooms at the very end of winter — stretches across the composition, covered with vibrant red blossoms. In East Asian tradition, plum blossoms symbolize resilience, renewal, and the first breath of spring. Their presence against a luminous gold background transforms the painting into a meditation on time, patience, and the quiet strength of nature.

A single Yellow-billed Blue Magpie rests on the branch, turning its gaze outward as if observing the world beyond the frame. In traditional symbolism, magpies represent good fortune, joyful news, and the arrival of love. The solitary bird introduces a moment of contemplation — a pause between winter and spring, between silence and movement.

Behind the branch rises a golden sun, diffused into the background like a distant memory of light. Its presence anchors the composition and fills the space with warmth, allowing the blossoms and the bird to emerge with quiet clarity.

The calligraphy of a classical haiku completes the scene, inviting the viewer to slow down and experience the painting as a visual poem. Like many works in the artist’s Japanese-inspired series, the piece balances minimalism with symbolism, creating an atmosphere of calm presence rather than narrative action.

Because of its panoramic format, the painting works particularly well in spacious interiors — above a sofa, dining table, or in a restaurant setting — where the horizontal movement of the branch can unfold across the wall.

The gold background reflects ambient light throughout the day, allowing the artwork to subtly change its appearance depending on the surrounding space and time of day.
