S053 is a large-scale horizontal composition defined by expressive brushwork and an intense red chromatic field. The painting stages a moment of rupture — a city engulfed in flames beneath the presence of a monumental dragon.
Rather than functioning as a literal narrative, the dragon operates as a symbolic force: an embodiment of energy, destruction, and transformation. Its vast membranous wings, captured mid-motion, extend across the surface, creating a sweeping rhythm that binds the composition together.
The city below is not rendered in detail, but suggested through fragmented forms and flickering structures, dissolving into the surrounding glow. Fire emerges not only as an event, but as a medium — spreading through the pictorial space and merging figure and environment into a single, unstable field.
The use of red is both atmospheric and structural. It saturates the entire composition, shifting between density and transparency, heat and shadow. Within this field, the brushstrokes remain visible and immediate, preserving the physical gesture of the artist and reinforcing the sense of urgency.
